In 2019, Iceland decided to try something bold and switched to a four-day workweek without cutting anyone’s pay. Instead of working 40 hours, most people now work 36 hours or less. Almost six years later, it’s clear the change worked. About 90% of workers in Iceland now enjoy the shorter week, and the results have been really positive. People say they’re less stressed, they sleep better, and they have more time for family, friends, and hobbies. Even though they’re working fewer hours, the amount and quality of work hasn’t gone down…in fact, in some places, it actually got better. Places like Germany, Portugal, and Spain are looking into trying something similar. You can’t argue with success.
