Turns out urine contains nitrogen and phosphorus, which is essential for crop growth and could be converted into 13-pounds of fertilizer. With this info, researchers are developing toilets that can separate urine from water, which can then be dried and converted into odorless, inexpensive pellets to spread on farmland. While the concept may not sound appealing, experts say it is "completely safe" and that humans have been collecting urine and using it as fertilizer for a long time, before the invention of sewage systems.
