Intoxicating aromas are a new fringe benefit at some offices around the country. For instance, commercial real estate company Hines has introduced custom scents to pump through the HVAC system at its Houston headquarters. Taking this super seriously, co-CEO Laura Hines-Pierce stated in a recent interview that “each note was thoughtfully selected” to evoke “a sense of belonging” in any Hines space. So, why are they in-scent-ivizing workers like this? Apparently, it has to do with the fact that smells have “an incredible power to influence how you feel,” according to the CEO of Scent Marketing. Companies like Hines have the new goal of creating custom smells that “will help to produce and inspire” feelings of creativity and collaboration in the workplace.
