In case you missed it...
Reba McEntire may have just trolled the entire sports betting industry. We told you that "prop bets," especially on Super Bowl Sunday, are a thing, with betting taking place on a number of on-field and off-field outcomes. Reba even joked about her boyfriend wanting to wager on the length of her performance of the National Anthem prior to the game. So she was very much aware of the betting taking place and her role in it. By the time Reba took the stage prior to Super Bowl LVIII, the betting line was 90.5; 90.5 seconds in length for her performance from start to finish, with people betting she would either go past that mark or end prior to it. We'll say it again: Reba was very much aware of all this. So, how did it turn out? Reba's performance came right up to that 90 second mark - and then, instead of stopping at the end, she repeated the final two words of the Anthem ("the brave") - which suddenly put her performance over the 90.5 second mark. So, that's that, right? Not so much. Sports books were in chaos. Did her performance officially end with her first "the brave?" Or did it end after she tacked on a repeat of that line? Some books paid the under, some paid the over - and some paid both. John Ewing, PR manager at BetMGM, first said the under hit, then said the operator paid bettors on the over and the under. DraftKings and FanDuel didn’t align - DraftKings Network published an article supporting the under, while FanDuel’s staff agreed it was the over. Believe it or not, the situation isn't new. Back in 2019, Gladys Knight also added a second “the brave” to her performance. Like BetMGM, sportsbook BetOnline.ag paid out on both sides of the line at the time. You'd think with that much money on the line the books would have been ready for such an eventuality. Wanna bet they fix this before next year's Super Bowl?
Jelly Roll is a big man - it's not something he can hide or deny, and he has no intention of doing so. In fact, he's enlisted the help of a top-shelf "bio-hacker" with a long history of success in body transformations to help him shed that excess weight. On a recent edition of the "Full Send" podcast, health guide Gary Brecka talked about teaming up with Jelly to get his weight under control and get him on a much healthier path. Recently JR stated he has a goal of completing a 5K run by May. This will certainly help him with that goal. Brecka discussed his admiration for the country singer, singling out his authenticity and inspiring message, and feels that helping Jelly live longer is important because "I feel that guy has a real message for the world." He explained that Jelly has been upfront about his struggles with his weight, and that they've come to a head, with the singer telling Brecka "This is the first time I felt like my weight was killing me." So Brecka and Jelly have gone to work. Brecka revealed that JR weighed in at 494 pounds, but that his goal is to get the country superstar to half that in the next fourteen months. Before you shake your head and say "that's impossible," note that Brecka has a proven track record of effecting change in people struggling with their health and their weight. UFC chief Dana White credits Brecka with saving his life, and Jake Owen - already in good shape but wanting to stay that way - consults with him as well.
