Kids want to have fun during summer break from school, but there has to be a balance so they don’t hit the summer slide. There are plenty of home and community learning programs to mix into summer fun. Here’s how to map out learning over the break:
- Utilize the resources around you
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help from the school
- Low tech activities are hidden learning opportunities
- Try shared learning activities:
- Reading books together
- Listening to audiobooks in the car
- Reading a book, then watching a movie based on it, comparing the two
- Going to the library
- Doing arts & crafts
- Visiting museums (check for days that are low-cost or free)
- Use typical home chores like planting a garden
- Get creative like adding math or spelling practice to jumping on a trampoline
