In case you missed it...
Fans came out to see Kenny Chesney and Kelsea Ballerini in Evansville, Indiana Saturday night - but they (and Kenny) got a little bit more. Seems Kenny's friends and occasional tour mates Old Dominion dropped by the show - and casually strolled out on stage as Kenny was mid-song. After surprising the country legend on-stage, the group and Kenny broke into an impromptu rendition of the Eagles hit "Take It Easy," delighting the crowd. After, Kenny admitted, "Nobody pulls one over on me. My band and my crew can't keep secrets, but they kept this one!" A positive footnote to the whole thing: Old Dominion lead singer Matthew Ramsey showed up without his cane for the first time since being sidelined by an ATV accident back in March, so his recovery seems to be progressing. "I've missed them, I love them and I'm proud of them," Chesney added on social media, sharing a few photos of the moment. "What a fun night. From Evansville to the Red Door. You can't make it up." On their social media, Old Dominion also documented the moment, writing, "A little Saturday night surprise for [Kenny Chesney] on the [I Go Back Tour.]"
Last month during the CMT Music Awards fans were treated to a pairing of rockers the Black Crowes and former rocker-turned-country star Darius Rucker as they performed the Crowes "She Talks To Angels" live. Tomorrow we get to see and hear how they sound together on a variety of tunes from both artists and a couple cover tunes as they team up for an episode of "CMT Crossroads." The two acts have been friends for years, and Darius says he was influenced by the Black Crowes in his early Hootie & The Blowfish days. "I've been a fan of The Black Crowes for decades, and I'm grateful that we've also become good friends over the years," Rucker says. "The first time I heard 'She Talks to Angels,' I remember being so moved by the lyrics that I went around Columbia, South Carolina, asking every single bar to play it." He goes on to say that there is a direct through-line from that song to Hootie's classic, "Let Her Cry." In the episode, the two acts swap stories and perform on each other's biggest hits, including The Black Crowes' take on Otis Redding's "Hard To Handle," as well as Crowes originals "She Talks to Angels," and "Remedy," along with the Hootie song "Let Her Cry," the Old Crow Medicine Show's "Wagon Wheel" and Drivin N Cryin's Southern rock anthem "Straight To Hell." "CMT Crossroads: The Black Crowes & Darius Rucker" is a one-hour episode and will premiere 10p/9c Tuesday, May 16th, with an immediate encore at 11p/10c and 12a/11c on Friday, May 19th. The show will also go live on Wednesday, May 17th on CMT.com, CMT VOD, and the MTV app (CMT Crossroads), with subsequent premieres on CMT MUSIC and MTV LIVE.
