A Floridian diver has befriended what he says is an “affectionate” 15-foot tiger shark to show the world that they’re not evil, and more like “dogs of the sea.” Jim Abernethy, an underwater photographer and scuba tour operator, says he’s pulled four hooks from the jaw of a shark he’s named Emma over the last 20 years. Abernethy says he and the shark have bonded to the point where the pair now communicates through hand signals and close encounters. He says tiger sharks are playful and friendly once they realize a human isn’t a threat.
