Spring Cleaning Can Improve Well-Being

Spring is almost here, which means folks will soon have to tackle some spring cleaning, and while some may hate it, others believe the seasonal clean out is good for them.

A new survey finds:

  • 72% of those polled say spring cleaning helps improve their overall well-being.
  • 78% feel there is a link between how tidy their home is and their well-being.
  • Three-quarters of people feel stressed when their homes aren’t tidy.
  • In addition to improving well being, folks say reasons they feel motivated to clean include:
    • Feeling productive (53%)
    • Welcoming the change of seasons (48%)
    • Preparing for other spring activities (47%)
  • Overall, most spring cleaners say it takes a little over two weeks to complete their cleaning check list.
  • More than half of those polled need more than 16 days.
  • 68% say spring cleaning can be overwhelming, with most putting off the hardest tasks for six days.

So, what is on most people’s spring-cleaning check list? Well, it includes:

  • Cleaning the bathroom (56%)
  • Cleaning out the fridge (55%)
  • Organizing/cleaning out the garage (53%)
  • Cleaning out the pantry (48%)
  • Mowing the lawn (46%)
  • Organizing the basement/attic (44%)
  • Raking leaves (43%)
  • Pruning bushes (40%)
  • Gardening/planting spring plants/flowers (39%)
  • Weeding outdoor spaces (37%)
  • Mopping the floors (37%)
  • Dusting (33%)
  • Pest control (29%)
