We’ve seen countless movies and TV shows about folks who survive an apocalypse, but if one were to really happen, would people be able to survive? Well, a new report suggests there are a few places in this world where the answer would be yes.
A study published in the journal “Sustainability” argues that New Zealand would be the best place in the world for folks to be able to survive a catastrophic event. Other countries on the “shortlist of nations” with the “greatest potential” to survive a doomsday event include Iceland, the United Kingdom, Australia and Ireland.
So, what makes these nations so great? Well, scientists judged countries on a variety of factors, including the ability to grow food for their population, as well as how well they could protect their borders from unwanted mass migration, the ability to maintain an electrical grid, as well as some manufacturing ability. Temperate weather conditions were also a big factor in deciding which nations would succeed post-apocalypse.
