Brad Paisley and Shania Twain are among this year’s nominees for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Both artists have been nominated in the Songwriter/Artist category, along with Toby Keith and Phil Vassar. In addition, Rhett Akins, Buddy Cannon, Larry Cordle, Carl Jackson, Mary Ann Kennedy, David Malloy, Frank J. Myers, and Tia Sillers have been nominated in the Songwriters category. Two songwriters and one songwriter/artist will be elected to the HOF by their peers and members of the HOF. In addition, two more will be named to the class of 2021. There will also be a veteran songwriter and a veteran songwriter/artist chosen by a separate body of veteran voters. To qualify for these two spots, the nominees will have to have had their first Top 20 hit at least 30 years ago. Those selected will be honored November 1st at the “50/51” Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala, which will also honor the class of 2020, which included Steve Earle, Bobbie Gentry, Kent Blazy, Brett James, and Spooner Oldham. Their gala was postponed due to COVID.
Earlier this year, Carrie Underwood headlined a special Easter concert at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, performing songs from her gospel album “My Savior.” Well, folks who couldn’t make it to Nashville, or didn’t catch the livestream, now have another chance to check it out. Carrie is set to release her first-ever gospel live performance DVD, “My Savior: LIVE From The Ryman,” on July 23rd. The special features guest appearances by Cece Winans and Bear Rinehart, frontman of the rock band NEEDTOBREATHE. In addition, on release day, a TV special featuring performances from the DVD will air on PBS, DIRECTV, DISH TV, Circle TV, and more, and it will be available on the Gaither TV YouTube Channel for a limited time.
