Dr. Peter Scott-Morgan is an actual scientist. He was also diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2017. That meant his life would be much shorter than it would be if he didn’t do something about it. In his words, he was inspired by "Doctor Who" and "Star Trek," and has now become...the world’s first cyborg. Up first - three operations inserting tubes directly into his stomach, bladder, and colon for feeding and waste removal. He then cloned his voice with a computer before having his voice box removed. An artificial intelligence system listens to speech directed at him and gives him prompts to choose from with eye movements, allowing him to talk in his own voice from his custom wheelchair. Was it worth it? He says so - and doctors estimate he’s extended his life by decades. “Every week I learned if you’re smart enough and brave enough,” Dr. Scott-Morgan notes. "Whatever the odds, you can change everything.”
