Christian author and theologian Nadia Bolz-Weber is asking Twitter users to mail her their purity rings “for a massive art project.” The former founding pastor of the House of All Sinners and Saints in Denver, Colorado is planning on melting the rings and make them into a golden sculpture of lady parts. She’s teaming up with Sweet Bird Studio to create the sculpture, which will be unveiled at the 2019 Maker’s Conference in Southern California. You might be asking… why? Bolz-Weber argues the rings have been used to shame young girls into “disconnecting with their bodies.” She’s hoping the project will show that such “harmful” symbols can be reclaimed and used for healing, humor or liberation.  Rings are being collected until December 17th. In return, entrants will receive a “Certificate of Impurity.”
