Blake Shelton has redefined the meaning of the word friendship.  In an interview with People, the "I Lived It" singer revealed that his friends are his real-life heroes.

“I find that as time goes by, my definition of a hero changes. My heroes have started to become my good friends,” Blake said. “You start to find out, the older you get — I guess we all do — that a really good friend is a pretty rare thing to have in your life. That person."

He added, "I’ve gotta say that the handful of really close friends that I have, those are my heroes. They’re the ones that will just drop everything to be there for you if they need to be. I hold them high.”

One of the 42-year-old singer's friends and heroes just happens to be the great Earl Thomas Conley. Blake gave a shoutout Earl while at the 2014 Country Music Association awards after noticing the country star had never won male vocalist of the year.

“I don’t know, it struck me,” Blake recalled. “I just assumed that surely he must have, because he’s my favorite he has to be the winner right? That night I happened to win male vocalist of the year and so I mentioned his name on stage and dedicated the award to him. He’s just an incredible vocalist and, I feel like, underrated.”

Blake then said Earl texted him later that night to thank him for the shoutout. “He said it had been a lot of years since he had heard his name mentioned from that stage,” Blake recalled.

Another impactful person in Blake's life is his girlfriend Gwen Stefani. While Blake made no mention of the "Rich Girl" singer, who he's been dating since 2015, in his interview, he recently gushed about their deep connection.

"Here we are, going on three years later and every day that goes by it just feels like a stronger bond between the two of us and it constantly feels like it’s going to the next level," Blake said on the Today show in June.
