A prequel to the film series "It" is in development for HBO Max.
Variety reports the series is currently called "Welcome to Derry" and will be based in the 1960s leading up to the events of "It: Part One." And yes, the story is said to include the origin story of Pennywise the Clown! It's based on the 1986 horror novel by author Stephen King.
It’s the latest example of HBO Max creating a series off an existing Warner Bros. film franchise as spinoffs of "The Batman" and "Dune" are also in development.
