Garth Brooks' Alter Ego Sounds Like Donald Glover's' Alter Ego

Alter ego's covering alter ego's songs can be a confusing concept especially, when the song being covered is by an alter ego that one artist would like to forget about.

Actor, comedian and singer Donald Glover, whose alter ego is rapper Childish Gambino, recently covered a song by Chris Gaines who is Garth Brooks rarely mentioned alter ego.

The song Gambino covered is "Lost In You" which was first recorded by Garth Brooks' alter ego Chris Gaines. The song is from a 1999 album titled Garth Brooks in ... The Life of Chris Gaines.

Garth recorded this album as his alter ego, Chris Gaines. The first single of the album was "Lost In You" and it produced Garth's only top 40 hit to chart on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. It peaked at number 5.

The album didn't do well due to people's confusion on why country superstar Garth Brooks was releasing an album under a different name. It was a marketing ploy for a movie project that Garth was going to film. The movie project never happened and Garth, to this date, avoids explaining what happened.

Too bad because the song and the pop album are actually good. I guess alter egos recording an album just wasn't a thing country listeners could wrap their heads around in 1999.

The wild thing is Glover and Garth or Childish Gambino and Chris Gaines actually sound very similar. Take a listen to Childish Gambino's version below, then Garth's as Chris Gaines and hear for yourself how alike they sound.
