Listen to Scotty McCreery on iHeartRadio

Scotty McCreery says his recent armed robbery was a frightening, eye-opening experience.

The country star tells USA Today he was with friends watching Gladiator following a late-night burger run when there was a knock at the door.  He explains that his friend looked through the peephole and only saw one person who "didn't look suspicious at all," but when he opened the door "an inch," a group of robbers kicked their way in.

The singer recalls that "the main guy" was "casing the living room" as he held guns on him and another friend, while the first robber through the door had an assault rifle.  Scotty adds that it "definitely puts your life in perspective when you're staring down the barrel of a pistol."

The robbery happened at an apartment in Raleigh, North Carolina earlier this month.  McCreery is a student at North Carolina State University in Raleigh.  The robbers took cash and other valuables.  Nobody was hurt in the incident.  A day later, one suspect surrendered to police.
